The Genesian Theatre is proud to present our 73rd Season in 2017-2018

Our 73rd season is bumper full of great theatre!

Welsh poet Dylan Thomas' masterpiece Under Milk Wood is an emotive and hilarious account of a spring day in a fictional Welsh seaside village. We learn of the inhabitants' dreams and desires, their loves and regrets. The play, closely associated with Richard Burton was 'crowned with a storm of cheers' after its opening performance.

A Murder is Announced in the local paper to occur in Miss Blacklock's Victorian house. The victim is an unexpected and unknown visitor. What follows is a classic Agatha Christie puzzle with Miss Marple on hand to provide the ingenious solution in a dramatic confrontation just before the final curtain.

To mark the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen's death we are proud to present a new adaptation of her novel Emma. Pledging never to marry, the mischievous Emma Woodhouse is nevertheless the 'matchmaker of Highbury' until love strikes where she least expects it! This joyous story will be the centrepiece of our Jane Austen Festival in July - hurry for tickets to this one!

The New York Times described Figaro, Charles Morey's new hit adaptation of Le Mariage de Figaro by Beaumarchais, as 'Infectious' 'Tart' and 'Funny'! Often overshadowed by the Operatic version, this hilarious romp remains tellingly relevant as Figaro himself explains "I took up my pen and wrote a book everyone admired that offered the modest suggestion that the rich should pay more tax than the poor, speculators should be responsible for their own losses and government ministers should not accept gifts from wealthy merchants."

We end the year with a comedic twist on the Genesian favourite - a murder mystery! Ed Sala's hilarious Bloody Murder takes all the classic elements of a British murder mystery but adds one huge twist you won't see coming!! Diabolically different and laugh out loud funny, every twist and turn of this extraordinary new play will leave you on the edge of your seat... or falling off it with laughter!

Rounding off our season we are going on a summer holiday in David Williamson's Australian classic Travelling North. Based on the true story of his mother-in-law finding new love in later life, this affectionate play is one of Williamson's best and most resonant.

We do hope you will join us for some or all of our plays this year. We look forward to showing you to your seat in Sydney's unique little theatre.
